Not all editions of the Qur'an (Arabic or other languages) have the same numbering of the verses. Similarly to the Bible, the division of the text into verses is a later addition. That often creates problems to find a verse reference. Usually though, the difference in verse numbers are no more than 5 verses up or down.

According to Muslim tradition, the number of verses in the Quran is 6666 though we have yet to see one edition of the Qur'an which has this number of verses.
