Modalism, Polytheism or just plain old Quackerism!

Another Response to one Muslim’s Foolishness and Blasphemies

Sam Shamoun

Jalal can’t leave well enough alone. He again wrote a "response" (*), this time to my article regarding the Quran’s mistaken views of what Christians believe concerning the Holy Trinity and the Divinity of Christ (*), and once again failed to provide the link to it!

Blatant Mockery and Blasphemy

It has become apparent that Jalal isn’t concerned with truth or serious, scholarly interaction. His entire purpose in writing these "replies" is to simply mock and blaspheme the true God and insult Christians for believing in him.

Here is an example of his blasphemy:

Moodalism: A cluster of Trinitarian heresies invented in the 4th century claiming that God is one in three and three in one; One God unit manifested in three different personalities, three different roles, three different names, three different experiences: the Father, the son and the Holy Ghost; all for one and one for all, depending on the mood of the Christian who is explaining Trinity that is (Jalal Abualrub).

Note the other instance:

Modalism seems to be somewhat more coherent than true Trinitarianism.  At least here we have one person that manifests himself in three different ways, which reminds me of that cartoon I used to watch when I was young where the character got scared and escaped in three different directions at once.  That true Trinity stuff is incomprehensible any way you look at it.  There is more, of course…

And another:

You see (and if you don’t see, don’t worry because I don’t see it either): God is one in three persons or manifestations, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, who share things perfectly and act as one since they are one, but have three different personalities and act as three, even though they are one.  Or are they one or three?  One of them died while the other two were nowhere to help, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani (My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me)" (Mark 15:34)?  And to think we were promised a prefect relationship between these three.

What makes this all the more sad is that Muslims take this man seriously and consider him an authority on Islam. Sadder still is that Jalal whines and complains when Christians expose Muhammad as a false prophet, a deceiver who misled people away from the truth, but has no qualms about ridiculing and mocking the true God whom Christians love and worship.

Lest the readers misunderstand, we are not saying that Jalal has no right to respond and address our arguments and evidences in order to show why he feels they are weak. What we are criticizing is his blatant disrespect and hatred of the true God and his utter failure of providing a serious, meaningful refutation of the evidence presented to prove our case for Christianity.

Straw man arguments and distortion of truth

As an example of Jalal’s inability of providing a rational response to our points he quotes what I wrote concerning my belief in Jesus’ Deity and his relationship with the Father and the Holy Spirit:

Shamoun continues, by saying, "The correct and biblical statement is that Jesus is God, since this suggests that although Jesus is fully God by nature he is not the only Person who shares the essence of Deity perfectly. The Bible also teaches that both the Father and the Holy Spirit are fully God."

And:

Read what Shamoun wrote on Modalism.  But, first remember this statement by Shamoun, "Jesus has the same divine name, authority, essence, nature, characteristics, etc., that the Father and the Holy Spirit have."  Jesus is also Yahweh, according to Shamoun.

But then proceeds to deliberately distort my position:

So, Jesus the son is also God the Father is also the Holy Ghost, who is also Jesus the Son and God the Father, who is also Jesus the son and the Holy Ghost.  And indeed, I am not going to ask if Jesus the human was created in the Holy Ghost and the Father too, since they are one and the same, thus implying that all three of them died and left the world hanging for three days, or is it one and a half days?

But now, I need help!  I need the reader to try and figure out how Shamoun is not a Modalist.  After that, everyone should thank Allah that He saved them from this utter nonsense.

Again:

Sam Shamoun wrote: "Christians do not believe … that God is the Messiah since this implies that Jesus is the entire Godhead, which would be modalism."

Here we go again!  Jesus is the Messiah; Jesus is God (according to Christians); Jesus is the Father (i.e., Yahweh, according to Shamoun); but the Messiah is not God.  If calling the Messiah God may imply that he is the entire Godhead, then, the same must be said about calling Jesus God, Yahweh and/or the Father, since this may imply that Jesus is the entire Godhead, whatever ‘Godhead’ means, or at least we cut Trinity down to Two-ity by ignoring the Holy Ghost, again.

He does it one more time:

Shamoun seems to call the son the father also, but we are waiting for his declaration about the Holy Ghost too that he is the father and the son too.  If Jesus the son is God, as Shamoun claims, and God is the Father, according to the NT, then the son is the Father, who is also the Holy Ghost, who is also the Father and the son.  But, Jesus is the Messiah, I testify to that, and therefore, and I testify not to that, the Father is the Messiah, and the Holy Ghost is also the Messiah.  This is one weird family.  This is why Muslims will not relent in rejecting this deep and utter falsehood.  This is total and complete mockery of Allah, Creator of everything.

He does it again in his most recent "response", but this time he claims that Christians in general are modalists because they believe Jesus is Yahweh:

Christians call Jesus God or Yahweh the alleged name of the Old Testament’s God.  Calling Jesus Yahweh is natural Moodalism as well as confusing Modalism.  Of course there are no scriptural texts supporting the outrageous claim that ascribes divinity to Jesus, and Yahweh is an unknown name that the Jews somehow introduced into their holy books to refer to Allah.  (Prince of Peace or Lord of War; source)

As anyone reading my articles can testify I have never said that Yahweh is a name that is ONLY used for the Father or that Jesus is the Father since he is Yahweh. I have made it a point to emphasize that the name Yahweh can refer to the Father or the Son or even the Holy Spirit. I have also reiterated that these three are distinct Persons who eternally exist as the one God.

Jalal knows what I actually believe since he even quotes my own statements where I clearly stated that informed Christians do not say that God is Jesus since this would imply that we believe that Jesus is all three, e.g. Christ is the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. I expressly stated that it is more appropriate to say that Jesus is God since this shows that Christ is fully God in essence without implying that he is the only Person of God.

It is obvious that Jalal is deliberately twisting my words since he knows he cannot refute my arguments, nor is he able to address the overwhelming Biblical evidence which supports my beliefs. Neither can he defend the Quran’s gross mistakes concerning what true, orthodox Christians believe regarding the Holy and Blessed Trinity.

The Biblical evidence that the name Yahweh can refer to more than one Person

For the sake of brevity I will provide an OT example where Yahweh is clearly used to refer to more than one Person. From there I will cite a NT text where Jesus is called Yahweh by his own Father, thereby further establishing my case that the Divine name of God can be used for either the Father or the Son without this suggesting that they are the same Person.

Oftentimes one will find the OT prophets speaking of two distinct Persons as Yahweh. For instance, the prophet Zechariah speaks of Yahweh sending Yahweh to live and reign in Zion!

"Come, O Zion! Escape, you who live in the Daughter of Babylon!’ For this is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘After he has honored me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you—for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye- I will surely raise my hand against them so that their slaves will plunder them. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty HAS SENT ME. Shout and be glad, O Daughter of Zion. FOR I AM COMING, AND I WILL LIVE AMONG YOU,’ declares the LORD. ‘Many nations will be joined with the LORD in that day and will become MY people. I WILL LIVE AMONG YOU and you will know that the LORD Almighty HAS SENT ME to you. The LORD will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land and will again choose Jerusalem. Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.’" Zechariah 2:7-13

Here is a clear, unambiguous reference to two distinct Persons as Yahweh God, one Yahweh who sends and the other Yahweh who is sent to live among the people!

Zechariah further sees Yahweh descending upon the Mount of Olives with his feet and splitting it in half:

"A day of the LORD is coming when your plunder will be divided among you. I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. On that day HIS FEET will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him." Zechariah 14:1-5

According to the NT Jesus is the One who will descend upon the Mount of Olives with all his saints or holy ones:

"After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’ Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city.’" Acts 1:9-12

The statements of the two men (who happen to be angels) indicate that Jesus will return to the Mount of Olives since this is the place from where he ascended! And:

"May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones." 1 Thessalonians 3:13

The above passages indicate that when Zechariah spoke of Yahweh sending Yahweh to descend upon the Mount of Olives and dwell with the people he was actually speaking of the risen and immortal Lord Jesus Christ descending from heaven in his glorified physical body at his second coming! To put it rather plainly, Zechariah was referring to the glorified and resurrected Jesus returning to Jerusalem to rule as the one, universal King of the earth since Jesus is the Yahweh he had seen by inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the OT prophets furnish evidence that a) Yahweh is multi-personal, and b) that Jesus is Yahweh God but not the Father (or the Holy Spirit).

Now as far as the NT is concerned the following reference has the Father addressing the Son as Yahweh God, the Creator and Sustainer of the universe:

"He [the Father] also says [to the Son], ‘In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.’" Hebrews 1:10-12

The author has taken Psalm 102:25-27, which in context refers to Yahweh’s role as the Maker and Cherisher of creation:

"Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: ‘The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.’ So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD. In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. So I said: ‘Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." Psalm 102:18-27

And applied it to the Son!

This again establishes the fact that, a) Yahweh is a name which can be ascribed to each individual member of the Godhead, and that b) Jesus is Yahweh without being the Father.

So much for Jalal’s distortion of my views.

The Divine Personhood of the Holy Spirit

Since Jalal has a fascination with God’s true, pure Spirit and is constantly questioning his Divinity we will provide the Biblical documentation which establishes that the Holy Spirit is fully God.

The Spirit is eternal and is called Lord and God

"The Spirit of the LORD spoke through me; his word was on my tongue. The God of Israel spoke, the Rock of Israel said to me: ‘When one rules over men in righteousness, when he rules in the fear of God.’" 2 Samuel 23:2-3

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit." 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

"How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!" Hebrews 9:14

The Spirit is the Creator

"Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." Genesis 1:2

"When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth." Psalm 104:29-30

"The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life." Job 33:4

The Spirit is Omnipresent

"I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you carry the burden of the people so that you will not have to carry it alone… So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent. Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again. However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the Tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp." Numbers 11:17, 24-26

"Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, 'Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,' even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you." Psalm 139:7-12

"You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you." Romans 8:9-11

"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;" 1 Corinthians 6:19

The Spirit is a Person

Here, by Person we do not mean that the Holy Spirit has a physical body or that he is limited to time and space. The term Person in relation to the Spirit means that he is a rational, intellectual entity who has a mind, will, emotions and who speaks and has fellowship with the Father and the Son, as well as with all true believers.

"Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has informed Him?" Isaiah 40:13 NASB

"Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy and he himself fought against them." Isaiah 63:10

"Then the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the gate of the house of the LORD that faces east. There at the entrance to the gate were twenty-five men, and I saw among them Jaazaniah son of Azzur and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people. The LORD said to me, ‘Son of man, these are the men who are plotting evil and giving wicked advice in this city. They say, "Will it not soon be time to build houses? This city is a cooking pot, and we are the meat." Therefore prophesy against them; prophesy, son of man.’ Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say: ‘This is what the LORD says: That is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know what is going through your mind.’" Ezekiel 11:1-5

"For many years you were patient with them. By your Spirit you admonished them through your prophets. Yet they paid no attention, so you handed them over to the neighboring peoples." Nehemiah 9:30

"While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, ‘Simon, three men are looking for you. So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.’" Acts 10:19-20

"While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ … The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus." Acts 13:2, 4

"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will." Romans 8:26-27

"And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." Ephesians 4:30

The Spirit is Israel's Redeemer

"Then his people recalled the days of old, the days of Moses and his people - where is he who brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them, who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses' right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown, who led them through the depths? Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble; like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name." Isaiah 63:11-14

The Spirit is the Author of the New Birth / The Cause of Regeneration

"The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person." 1 Samuel 10:6

"When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth." Psalm 104:30

"The fortress will be abandoned, the noisy city deserted; citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever, the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks, till the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field, and the fertile field seems like a forest." Isaiah 32:14-15

"For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God." Ezekiel 36:24-28

"In reply Jesus declared, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.’ ‘How can a man be born when he is old?’ Nicodemus asked. ‘Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!’ Jesus answered, ‘I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, "You must be born again." The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.’" John 3:3-8

The Spirit Empowers and Distributes God's Gifts to Believers

"Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘See, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts - to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I have commanded you.’" Exodus 31:1-6

"Then Moses said to the Israelites, ‘See, the LORD has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts." Exodus 35:30-31

"Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the Spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses." Deuteronomy 34:9

"‘After that you will go to Gibeah of God, where there is a Philistine outpost. As you approach the town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, tambourines, flutes and harps being played before them, and they will be prophesying. The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you. Go down ahead of me to Gilgal. I will surely come down to you to sacrifice burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, but you must wait seven days until I come to you and tell you what you are to do.’ As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day. When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he joined in their prophesying. When all those who had formerly known him saw him prophesying with the prophets, they asked each other, ‘What is this that has happened to the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?’" 1 Samuel 10:5-11

"He gave him the plans of all that the Spirit had put in his mind for the courts of the temple of the LORD and all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the temple of God and for the treasuries for the dedicated things. ‘All this,’ David said, ‘I have in writing from the hand of the LORD upon me, and he gave me understanding in all the details of the plan." 1 Chronicles 28:12, 19

"But it is the Spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding… For I am full of words, and the Spirit within me compels me." Job 32:8, 18

"A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him - the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD." Isaiah 11:1-2

"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn." Isaiah 61:1-2

"On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: ‘Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them, "Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing? But now be strong, O Zerubbabel," declares the LORD. "Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land," declares the LORD, "and work. For I am with you," declares the LORD Almighty. "This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear."’" Haggai 2:1-5

"So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,"’ says the LORD Almighty." Zechariah 4:6

"Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines. The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many." 1 Corinthians 12:7-14

What makes this all the more amusing, as well as amazing, is that Jalal’s own false scripture teaches that the Spirit is God! (This doesn’t mean that we believe that the Quran is speaking of the same Holy Spirit revealed in God’s true Word, the Holy Bible).

For example, Allah’s spirit is said to be every bit as good of a creator as Jalal’s deity since he creates in the same exact way that Jalal’s god does (Q. 15:29; 19:16-19; 66:12). Allah’s spirit is also omnipresent and omnipotent since he can be with all believers to strengthen them:

And We gave to Moses the Book, and after him sent succeeding Messengers; and We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear signs, and confirmed him with the Holy Spirit; and whensoever there came to you a Messenger with that your souls had not desire for, did you become arrogant, and some cry lies to, and some slay? S. 2:87 Arberry

And those Messengers, some We have preferred above others; some there are to whom God spoke, and some He raised in rank. And We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear signs, and confirmed him with the Holy Spirit… S. 2:253 Arberry

Thou shalt not find any people who believe in God and the Last Day who are loving to anyone who opposes. God and His Messenger, not though they were their fathers, or their sons, or their brothers, or their clan. Those -- He has written faith upon their hearts, and He has confirmed them with a Spirit from Himself; and He shall admit them into gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to dwell forever, God being well-pleased with them, and they well-pleased with Him. Those are God's party; why, surely God's party -- they are the prosperers. S. 58:22 Arberry

More on these points later.

God’s People as his Spiritual Children

Jalal continues with his insults and has the audacity to think that Muhammad’s words carry some weight for God’s true worshippers:

Mockerism: Allah said, "The son of Adam tells a lie against me though he has no right to do so, and he abuses Me though he has no right to do so. As for his telling a lie against Me, he claims that I cannot recreate him as I created him before; as for his abusing Me, it is his statement that I have offspring. No! Glorified be Me! I Am far from taking a wife or offspring." (Bukhari)

Where did we go from God being the One and Only to this unexplainable set of terms and creeds that have absolutely no basis in any Scripture; even Hinduism can be simpler.  At least, Hindus do not claim their religion is Monotheistic, not yet at least.  To Muslims and most Jews, both Modalism and Trinitarianism involve committing major aggression against the Creator of everything by calling to, believing in and practicing Shirk that is clear polytheism.

It isn’t just the hadith literature where Muhammad denied that Allah has a son since he makes the same assertion in his Quran:

And they say, 'The All-merciful has taken unto Himself a son. You have indeed advanced something hideous! The heavens are wellnigh rent of it and the earth split asunder, and the mountains wellnigh fall down crashing for that they have attributed to the All-merciful a son; and it behoves not the All-merciful to take a son. None is there in the heavens and earth but he comes to the All-merciful as a servant; S. 19:88-93

The problem, however, is that the inspired writings of God’s true emissaries emphatically proclaim that Yahweh has taken to himself sons, albeit in a purely spiritual manner and not by means of sexual procreation:

"Then say to Pharaoh, ‘This is what the LORD says: Israel is my firstborn son, and I told you, "Let my son go, so he may worship me." But you refused to let him go; so I will kill your firstborn son.’" Exodus 4:22-23

"They will come with weeping; they will pray as I bring them back. I will lead them beside streams of water on a level path where they will not stumble, because I am Israel's father, and Ephraim is my firstborn son." Jeremiah 31:9

"Yet the Israelites will be like the sand on the seashore, which cannot be measured or counted. In the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’" Hosea 1:10

"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son." Hosea 11:1

"Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God." John 1:12-13

"because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." Romans 8:14-16

"How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him." 1 John 3:1

Some of these sons that God adopted include prophets and kings such as David:

"‘I have set my king on Zion, my holy hill.’ I will tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to me, ‘You are my son, today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.’" Psalm 2:6-8

It is rather amusing to note that the verb for begotten is the word yalad, being the Hebrew cognate of the very Arabic word which appears in S. 112:3 as a denial that Allah begets or is begotten!

Say: 'He is God, One, God, the Everlasting Refuge, who has not begotten, and has not been begotten (Lam yalid walam yooladu), and equal to Him is not any one.' S. 112:1-4 Arberry

Here is how one lexical source defines the Hebrew word:

  Strong’s H325
  Yalad

  1) to bear, bring forth, beget, gender, travail

Elsewhere God identifies David as his firstborn son, the one exalted over all the other earthly kings:

"Of old thou didst speak in a vision to thy faithful one, and say: ‘I have set the crown upon one who is mighty, I have exalted one chosen from the people. I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him… He shall cry to me, "Thou art my Father, my God, and the Rock of my salvation." And I will make him the first-born, the highest of the kings of the earth.’" Psalm 89:19-20, 26-27

David’s son Solomon is another prophet that Yahweh took as his son:

"Moreover I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house. When your days are fulfilled to go to be with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for me, and I will establish his throne for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son; I will not take my steadfast love from him, as I took it from him who was before you, but I will confirm him in my house and in my kingdom for ever and his throne shall be established for ever." 1 Chronicles 17:10b-14

And:

"David said to Solomon, ‘My son, I had it in my heart to build a house to the name of the LORD my God. But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "You have shed much blood and have waged great wars; you shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed so much blood before me upon the earth. Behold, a son shall be born to you; he shall be a man of peace. I will give him peace from all his enemies round about; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quiet to Israel in his days. He shall build a house for my name. He shall be my son, and I will be his father, and I will establish his royal throne in Israel for ever."’" 1 Chronicles 22:7-10

Finally:

"Yet the LORD God of Israel chose me from all my father's house to be king over Israel for ever; for he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father's house, and among my father's sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel. And of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons) he has chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. He said to me, ‘It is Solomon your son who shall build my house and my courts, for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.’" 1 Chronicles 28:4-6

The inspired Scriptures also refer to God as a spiritual Father in the sense of his being the Creator, the life-giver, provider and protector of his people:

"But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name." Isaiah 63:16

"Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand." Isaiah 64:8

"Have we not all one Father? Did not one God create us? Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another?" Malachi 2:10

This is one of the definitions that the blessed Apostle Paul gives when speaking of God’s role as a Father, e.g. we are all God’s children because he is the One who gives life and sustains us:

"The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’" Acts 17:24-28

With the foregoing in perspective it is abundantly clear that the Quran distorts the teachings of the prophets and apostles since they spoke quite often of the spiritual Fatherhood of God and the fact that he has many children.

The Real Mocker and Blasphemer

Muhammad gave two reasons why he didn’t believe that Allah had children. First, he mistakenly thought that the only way for Allah to have children is if he has a wife and has sex with her:

Yet, they join the jinns as partners in worship with Allah, though He has created them (the jinns), and they attribute falsely without knowledge sons and daughters to Him. Be He Glorified and Exalted above (all) that they attribute to Him. He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth. How can He have children when He has no wife? He created all things and He is the All-Knower of everything. S. 6:100-101 Hilali-Khan

Muhammad’s reasoning implies that it is not possible to have children without there being sexual intercourse between two parties. Yet if Muhammad is correct then this means that it should not have been possible for Mary to have a son while still virgin since she had no husband. Yet the Quran says she did conceive and gave birth to a son without having sexual relations:

She said: "O my Lord! How shall I have a son when no man has touched me." He said: "So (it will be) for Allah creates what He wills. When He has decreed something, He says to it only: "Be!" and it is. S. 3:47 Hilali-Khan

This shows that Muhammad was wrong since Mary is an example of a person who had a child without having a consort, and if she could then why can’t God have a son without having a wife?

Otherwise, Muhammad’s logic would imply that Allah must have been the Father in the relationship since he caused Mary to conceive Jesus (albeit without having intercourse with her). This may suggest that Muhammad didn’t necessarily assume that Allah would have to sleep with a consort in order to have a child. Muhammad may have actually believed that his god could simply cause a woman to get pregnant and by being the direct cause of the conception he could rightly be identified as the child’s father.

But this leads to another problem, namely, the Quran specifically says it wasn’t Allah who caused Mary to get pregnant but it was his spirit who did:

And mention in the Book Mary when she withdrew from her people to an eastern place, and she took a veil apart from them; then We sent unto her Our Spirit that presented himself to her a man without fault. She said, 'I take refuge in the All-merciful from thee! If thou fearest God ... He said, ‘I am but a messenger come from thy Lord, to give thee a boy most pure.’ She said, ‘How shall I have a son whom no mortal has touched, neither have I been unchaste?’ He said, ‘Even so thy Lord has said: "Easy is that for Me; and that We may appoint him a sign unto men and a mercy from Us; it is a thing decreed."’ S. 19:19-21 Arberry

So Jesus’ real Father and the husband of Mary is none other than the spirit of Allah!

As if this weren’t confusing enough the Quran says that it has a mother!

Allah blots out what He wills and confirms (what He wills). And with Him is the Mother of the Book (ommu al-kitabi) (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz) S. 13:39 Hilali-Khan

We verily, have made it a Qur'an in Arabic, that you may be able to understand (its meanings and its admonitions). And Verily, it (this Qur'an) is in the Mother of the Book (ommi al-kitabi) (i.e. Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz), before Us, indeed Exalted, full of Wisdom. S. 43:3-4 Hilali-Khan

Again, if Muhammad’s reasoning were sound then the Quran must also have a father, which means that the Quran’s mother had sex with its father in order to conceive the Muslim scripture. There is no need to guess who the father is since Muslims boast that the Quran is the speech of Allah, thereby identifying him as the husband of the Quran’s mother! This either means that Allah does have sex since he has a wife, or we must believe that he and the Quran’s mother were able to conceive the Muslim scripture without having intercourse.

Whatever the case may be Muhammad was clearly wrong and confused.

The second reason Muhammad gives for denying God’s spiritual Fatherhood is that he erroneously thought that if the Jews and Christians were truly children of God then they wouldn’t be punished for their sins:

Say the Jews and Christians, 'We are the sons of God, and His beloved ones.' Say: 'Why then does He chastise you for your sins? No; you are mortals, of His creating; He forgives whom He will, and He chastises whom He will.' For to God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and of the earth, and all that is between them; to Him is the homecoming. S. 5:18 Arberry

This is a curious argument from a supposed all-knowing deity since it does not follow that just because God chastises individuals this somehow proves that these persons are not his spiritual children. In fact, the reverse is true, i.e. if a person is truly a child of God who is living in disobedience then we would expect God to correct or rebuke him/her just as earthly parents discipline their children whom they love:

"Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers. Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you." Deuteronomy 8:1-5

"My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in." Proverbs 3:11-12

"And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: ‘My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.’ Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it." Hebrews 12:5-11

"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent." Revelation 3:19

This conclusively shows that it is Muhammad who is a blasphemer and mocker for insulting God the Father by insinuating that he could only have children if he had a wife with whom he has sex. Muhammad’s carnal mind caused him to insult the infinite majesty and dignity of the one true God of Abraham by defining fatherhood in a purely physical, sexual manner.

It is Muhammad who distorted what God’s true prophets and messengers taught concerning the Creator being a loving spiritual Father who creates families both in heaven and on earth in order to enjoy him and one another.

And yet Jalal would want us to reject the testimony of God’s true emissaries for the words of a false prophet who has duped people like Jalal to believe in him. Worse still, he would have us believe that the Jews agreed to corrupt their Holy Scriptures in order to agree with the NT teaching concerning the true God being a spiritual Father to his people.

Now Jalal can save himself a lot of trouble by simply coming out and admitting that the Allah of the Quran is not the same God revealed in the Holy Bible. As Christians we already know that Muhammad’s Allah is a false god whom he tried to pass off as the one true God revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the blessed prophets and apostles.

Islam’s Quadranity

We have already discussed Islam’s Pentagonity elsewhere, e.g. Jalal really has five gods rolled up into one (*), so here we want to focus on four of Jalal’s five gods. Jalal mockingly says that:

This, Shamoun’s personal opinion, is of course not correct.  The Bible teaches no such thing he falsely claimed, we have not heard or seen evidence to support these claimed facts.  The Father, the son and the Holy Ghost can only share things perfectly if they are one and the same, in which case they must be one, not three.  If they share things perfectly, when one of them dies, the other two must die as well.  Otherwise, they share nothing.

Apart from further exposing his ignorance concerning what the Bible and Trinitarians mean by the Persons of the Godhead sharing all things perfectly and what Jesus’ death actually entails (*), we would like to turn the tables on Jalal in order to show him what would happen when we apply his nonsense to his own false god and corrupt scriptures.

Earlier in our discussion we saw how the Quran says that Allah’s spirit created Jesus. The Quran also teaches that Allah’s spirit is present with all believers in order to strengthen them in their faith (Q. 2:87, 253; 58:22). The identity of the spirit is further said to be a mystery, known only to Allah:

And they ask you (O Muhammad SAW) concerning the Ruh (the Spirit); Say: "The Ruh (the Spirit): it is one of the things, the knowledge of which is only with my Lord. And of knowledge, you (mankind) have been given only a little." S. 17:85 Hilali-Khan

These specific characteristics and abilities establish the fact that the spirit is fully Divine since who else is all-powerful, present everywhere and can create life besides God?

We further mentioned that the Quran has a mother and that the Muslim scripture is supposed to be the eternal speech of Allah. In fact, Muslim scholars went so far as to say that even though the Quran is not Allah it is not other than him!

We confess that the Kuran is the speech of Allah, uncreated, His inspiration and revelation, not He, yet not other than He, but His real quality, written in the copies, recited by the tongues, preserved in the breasts, yet not residing there. The ink, the paper, the writing are created, for they are the work of men. The speech of Allah on the other hand is uncreated, for the writing and the letters and the words and the verses are manifestations of the Kuran for the sake of human needs. The speech of Allah on the other hand is self-existing, and its meaning is understood by means of these things. Whoso sayeth that the speech of Allah is created, he is an infidel regarding Allah, the Exalted, whom men serve, who is eternally the same, His speech being recited or written and retained in the heart, yet never dissociated from Him. (A. J. Wensinck, The Muslim Creed (Cambridge: The University Press, 1932) p. 127; taken from the Wasiyat Abi Hanifa; bold and underline emphasis ours)

And:

He has attributes from all eternity subsistent in His essence. They are not He nor are they other than He. And they are Knowledge and Power and Life and Might and Hearing and Seeing and Willing and Desiring and Doing and Creating and Sustaining. (Sa‘d al-Din al-Taftazani, A Commentary on the Creed of Islam, translated by E. E. Elder [Columbia University Press: New York, 1950], p. 49; bold and underline emphasis ours)

Yet if the Quran is eternal then so must its mother, which leaves us with four gods altogether, e.g. Allah, the spirit, the Mother of the book, and the Quran.

Moreover, the Muslims differentiate between the Quran as Allah’s speech, which is eternal, and as a book that is written down, which is created. In other words, the Quran is both eternal and created, timeless and temporal at the same time. Talk about mass confusion!

If we try to make sense of all this theological nonsense we end up with Jalal’s religion not only presenting us with four gods but that one of these gods became a book, and therefore has two distinct natures at the same time.

Or Jalal may actually believe that all of these are manifestations of the one and the same deity, e.g. Allah is the spirit who is the Mother of the book who is the Quran who then became a book!

If Jalal opts for the first position then he ends up admitting that he is a pagan and that Islam is a polytheistic religion. But if he chooses the second view then he faces the additional problem of trying to explain how the Quran could be burned and destroyed without this also affecting Allah:

Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman came to Uthman at the time when the people of Sham and the people of Iraq were Waging war to conquer Arminya and Adharbijan. Hudhaifa was afraid of their (the people of Sham and Iraq) differences in the recitation of the Qur'an, so he said to 'Uthman, "O chief of the Believers! Save this nation before they differ about the Book (Quran) as Jews and the Christians did before." So 'Uthman sent a message to Hafsa saying, "Send us the manuscripts of the Qur'an so that we may compile the Qur'anic materials in perfect copies and return the manuscripts to you." Hafsa sent it to 'Uthman. 'Uthman then ordered Zaid bin Thabit, 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair, Said bin Al-As and 'AbdurRahman bin Harith bin Hisham to rewrite the manuscripts in perfect copies. 'Uthman said to the three Quraishi men, "In case you disagree with Zaid bin Thabit on any point in the Qur'an, then write it in the dialect of Quraish, the Qur'an was revealed in their tongue." They did so, and when they had written many copies, 'Uthman returned the original manuscripts to Hafsa. 'Uthman sent to every Muslim province one copy of what they had copied, and ordered that all the other Qur'anic materials, whether written in fragmentary manuscripts or whole copies, BE BURNT. Said bin Thabit added, "A Verse from Surat Ahzab was missed by me when we copied the Qur'an and I used to hear Allah's Apostle reciting it. So we searched for it and found it with Khuzaima bin Thabit Al-Ansari. (That Verse was): 'Among the Believers are men who have been true in their covenant with Allah.' (33.23) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 61, Number 510)

If Allah is the Quran then by destroying the Muslim scripture the Muslims were invariably destroying and burning Allah as well. To top it off, there is even a tradition which says that an animal ate a part of the Quran!

Elsewhere Ibn Majah informs us that Aisha said:

"The verse of stoning and of sucking (See Section Four, Chapter II, 8a, Genetics and Milk-mothers.) came down ... and its sheet was under my bed: when therefore the Apostle of God died, and we were occupied about his death, a tame animal came in and ate it." (Source)

Thus, we have a part of Allah being eaten by a tame beast!

But wait there is more. Since there are multiple Arabic versions and translations of the Quran then this either means that we have more than four gods or Allah has inscripturated himself literally thousands of times if not more. After all, if Allah = Quran then this means whenever the Muslims wrote down the Quran this was Allah permitting himself to become a book and we therefore have Allah being inscripturated thousands of times over, and in various languages to boot!

But now not only do we need help to understand this mess, so does Jalal!  He needs the reader to try and figure out how he and the rest of the Muslims who have been deceived by Muhammad are not polytheists or modalists.

We will let Jalal explain all of this nonsense which his false prophet and corrupt book brought to the masses. Until then, everyone should thank the Lord Jesus Christ that he saved them from this utter nonsense called Islam.

For more on the Quran being the uncreated speech of Allah we recommend the following articles: 1, 2, 3

Jalal: The Master of Logical Fallacies

Jalal appeals to a report published by the Vatican as if this somehow proves that Islam is true!

I seek refuge with Allah from this utter disbelief and thank Him dearly that he allowed me to live until I witnessed the Vatican admit that now, there are more Muslims than there are Catholics (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,343336,00.html).

Indeed, this is where we can truly use the word manifestation as it pertains to the Prophet’s miraculous prophecy, "This matter (Islam) shall spread to wherever the night and the day reach (the entire earth). Allah will not leave a house made of Madar (brick; mud) or Wabar (tent) but will enter this religion into it, adding strength to the strong and bringing humiliation to the disgraced: might with which Allah elevates Islam, and disgrace with which Allah humiliates disbelief." (Silsilat al-A`hadeeth as-Sahihah, by Imam al-Albani)

Here, Jalal is up to his old tricks and is clearly using lies (khida) and concealment (taqiyya). He doesn’t inform his readers that this report wasn’t comparing the number of Muslims with the number of the entire Christian population, but only Catholics. In fact, this same report says that there are considerably more Christians than Muslims:

He said that Catholics accounted for 17.4 percent of the world population -- a stable percentage -- while Muslims were at 19.2 percent… When considering all Christians and not just Catholics, Christians make up 33 percent of the world population, Formenti said.

Furthermore, this percentage of Muslims doesn’t only include Sunnis or even Salafis (Jalal’s heretical sect), but Shiites, Ahmadiyyas, Nation of Islam etc., all of whom Jalal would label as false Muslims.

Besides, didn’t Muhammad say that the great bulk of Muslims will go to hell and only one group from among them will be on the path of salvation?

Narrated AbuHurayrah:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The Jews were split up into seventy-one or seventy-two sects; and the Christians were split up into seventy one or seventy-two sects; and my community will be split up into seventy-three sects. (Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 40, Number 4579)

Abdullah Bin Amr narrated that Allâh’s Messenger said, "There will befall my Ummah exactly (all those) evils which befell the people of Isra'il, so much so that if there was one amongst them who openly committed fornication with his mother, there will be among my Ummah one who will do that; and if the people of Isra'il were fragmented into seventy-two sects my Ummah will be fragmented into seventy-three sects. All of them will be in Hell Fire except one sect." They (the Companions) said: "Allâh’s Messenger, which is that?" Whereupon he said: "It is one to which I and my companions belong."  (At-Tirmidhi, Number 171)

This means that even Muhammad didn’t put much emphasis on numbers since he believed that the majority of his followers would burn in hell. Which leads us to our next point.

The Lord Jesus said that more people will end up in hell than heaven:

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:13-14

Thus, the most that Jalal proves by his skewed statistics is that Muslims are part of the many that Jesus said will enter eternal punishment. (God forbid. We pray that our risen Lord and immortal Savior Jesus Christ will have mercy and bring these precious Muslims out of the darkness of Islam and into his glorious light of salvation. May our immortal Lord Jesus Christ, Jalal’s true God and eternal Master, save both Jalal and the rest of the Muslims by enabling them to believe in the true Gospel as found in the inspired pages of the New Testament, God’s true Word).

Moreover, let us see what Jalal conveniently left out from this report:

"It is true that while Muslim families, as is well known, continue to make a lot of children, Christian ones on the contrary tend to have fewer and fewer," the monsignor said.

The reason why Islam is spreading IS NOT because of conversion but because of procreation. It is a fact that Muslims, by and large, have more children than the average Christian couple.

So much for Jalal’s fallacious appeal to numbers and authority.

Jalal said something curious at that conclusion of his recent "rebuttal":

No matter what haters of Muhammad may say, Muhammad wins the argument every time.  May Allah’s peace and blessing be on His Prophet Muhammad, the natural and true successor to Prophet `Esa, peace be upon him.  (Source)

Indeed, Muhammad does win every time. He wins the award of being one of the greatest deceivers of all time for duping people into believing that he is a prophet of the same true God of Abraham and for causing many like Jalal to blindly follow his perversion of the true message of the Lord Jesus Christ.

And no matter what the haters of the true God and of the real Gospel of the Lord Jesus like Jalal may say, Christ has won and will always win since he has destroyed the power of Satan, sin and death by his glorious resurrection to immortality.  May the true God and Father save us from the blasphemies and anti-Christian teachings of Muhammad, the false usurper of Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of the Most, the King of kings and Lord of lords.
